Possible Grogan "Instant Examiner" Websites selling polygraph services (jump straight to the list of sites)

Background on why this list is being developed.

There has been a rash of new polygraph examiner websites popping up around the country. The one thing you will find in common is that they are full of 'legitimate sounding information', but when you try to locate anything to PROVE the claimed background, training, schooling or credentials...you won't find it.

Why? Because these are likely Grogan "Instant Examiner" creations. Allow me to explain.

Grogan markets and sells the 45lb "Polygraph Academy in a box" to anyone who wants to buy it. He states on his site that this is not a school but an 'avocational speciality'. Interesting, especially since the domain name is 'polygraphacademy'. That doesn't sound like just an avocational specialty. This is his way of covering himself. But we have first hand testimony that when someone gets on the phone with Grogan to purchase the Academy, he assures them that this box is all they will need to become a qualified examiner and start conducting business. He also repeatedly tells potential buyers that going to a real polygraph school is a waste of time and money.

It is equivalent to selling a book on internal medicine and after you read it, you are perfectly okay to begin conducting surgery on your friends and relatives.

After an individual has bought into the plan, he tries to legitimize them by granting them 'instant membership' into his PEOA.us organization and often times declaring them 'member of the month' before they have even conducted a single polygraph test in their life.

He also convinces them to purchase a $5,000 + polygraph instrument, for which he gets approximately $1,000 as a referral fee.

What he does not tell the buyer is that...

1. They will never be able to conduct examinations legally if that state has a polygraph license law.

2. They will never be able to be a part of the legitimate polygraph community because they won't meet the requirements to join any recognized polygraph association.

3. they will never be able to gain government contracts because they are not properly trained.

4. That they will have absolutely no hands-on experience prior to offering services to the unsuspecting public, except for a few who have apparently gone on a test or two with Grogan and somehow that suffices as all the training they will need to conduct tests competently.

After realizing that they have been duped by the 'lie behind the sale', most victims I have talked with are very upset to realize they have invested a lot of money and time only to be completely not prepared to begin this career without more real life personal experience, training and quality control from a legitimately experienced examiner.

Of course, when they ask for a refund from Grogan, none is ever given.

By the way, the victims I'm describing are not the ones listed on this page. I just wanted to give you the background of how things work according to first hand testimonies of those who have been directly involved in Grogan's world.

This page is about those who appear to have no ethical or moral problems with giving polygraph examinations for money even though they have no recognized polygraph training. They are depending on the unsuspecting public to NOT check out their credentials or question their methods.

Which brings me to the list of sites below. First let me say clearly that these are sites I suspect that their only training came from Grogan's 'avocational' Academy or from some personal meetings with Grogan himself at which time he can say the person is 'preceptor' trained.

Preceptor training means that you learn from an individual rather than from a recognized training facility. Of course, Grogan and Grogan followers try to make this preceptor training sound like it means they are actually better trained than all of us who actually attended recognized polygraph schools. They make it sound like they are learning a martial art from a trained master. Just about everything on these sites are clever 'spins' to make you feel confident to buy from them. In reality, the preceptor training from first hand eye witness victims of Grogan is to follow Grogan on tests where he has, in the past, 'falsified' the results to make the client happy.

With all that said, the following websites appear to be only 'Grogan' trained. I have made attempts at contacting many of the site owners to ask them directly as I do not wish to falsely accuse anyone. I have been met with only spin talk and assurances that they are properly trained, certified & insured, but for some reason they never seem to offer one shred of proof.

To be fair, if you are the owner of any of these sites below and you have been unfairly clumped with the others, by all means, please contact me and send me proof of your APA approved training & certifications, your license (if in a licensing state) and polygraph errors and omissions insurance and I will immediately remove your site from this list AND I will send a public apology notice to all who follow this site of that oversight and correction.

I have had to make a few assumptions based on the content I find in the site and usually because these sites are using the exact same "spin copy" that I see on Grogan websites, which seems to be a little too coincidental.

Possible Grogan "Instant Examiner" Websites

Disclaimer - I am not telling you that you can't do business with these sites or their owners. I'm suggesting that before you do, require them to show proof of their credentials other than through Grogan or the 45lb Academy in a box. Ask the following, but don't take their word for it, require PROOF.

1. Where did you receive your polygraph training? Ask to see a copy of their training certificate and then see if that is part of the American Polygraph Association list of recognized schools. If they say they are 'preceptor' trained, ask them to provide proof of the qualified examiner who 'preceptor' trained them and proof of their time being trained. Make them produce documents. They can't and won't.

2. Ask them if they are members of any polygraph associations and to show their certificate. Remember, anything referring to Grogan's Polygraph Examiners of America (PEOA.US) means nothing. Although Grogan claims you have to submit to standards to become a member, we have first hand testimonial that he grants 'instant membership' to anyone who purchase his 'academy'.

3. Ask to see a copy of their license to practice polygraph in your state. Not all states have licensing. For a list of those that do, see the American Polygraph Association list of licensed state boards.

4. Ask to see a copy of their errors and omissions insurance, especially if they are conducting tests related to the Employee Polygraph Protection Act. Other than for EPPA related polygraph tests, insurance is not required, but you'll find that most responsible examiners carry it anyway.

Okay, on to the list. (if some info seem to no longer be accurate, it is likely these site owners have changed their site. But we keep screen captures of everything we have posted here and can prove it if necessary)

Apparent Owner - David Scott Wisotzki
Area - Southern California

Things to Note on the Site:

Says he is "Preceptor" Trained. Ask by whom and how long did that take? Ask to speak to his 'trainer'. And then ask why he thinks Preceptor training is better than what our Government requires for polygraph training.

Says that he is NOT associated with any nationally recognized polygraph association. He gives very flimsy reasons why. Hmm, could it be possible that the real reason is that he can't qualify for any of those associations because he has no real training? See how clever the spin is? He implies that not being a member of the 'recognized' associations is somehow a good thing.

Says that 'nationwide referrals' are available. Ask if this referral system is through Grogan and the PEOA.US.

http://polygraphs.org
Apparent Owner - Joseph Francis Rydzewski
Area - Southern California

Things to Note on the Site:

Says "All polygraph examiners employed by Maxum are fully trained, certified and highly experienced". Ask to see proof of this training and certification. Is it anything other than Grogan's materials?

Says "Our examiners and analysts have over 25 years of experience in conducting polygraph examinations". Ask them to prove it.

Says that 'nationwide referrals' are available. Ask if this referral system is through Grogan and the PEOA.US.

http://modernpolygraph.com
Apparent Owner - Larry DiPaoela
Area - Northern California

Things to Note on the Site:

Says "He went on to study the science known as the Psychophysiology detection of deception: lie detection" Ask him where he studied and to show proof of completion.

Says "He is a Senior member of The Polygraph Examiners of America, www.peoa.us" Ask him what was required of him to become a 'senior' member of the peoa and how does the peoa follow up on his work as the peoa website says it does. Also ask him what he has done or what peoa requires that has made him peoa 'member of the month' for going on three months now.

http://www.peoa.us/poly_mom.htm (this may likely get changed fast since we are exposing it here, but we monitored the site and the 'member of the month' hasn't changed from Larry since May.)

http://masseypolygraph.com
Apparent Owner - Jim Massey
Area - Southern California

Things to Note on the Site:

Says "-Member of PEOA (Polygraph Examiners of America)Ask if he is able to be a member of any recognized polygraph association?

Says "Part of Jim's training in this field includes the participation and graduation from an 8-week polygraph academy taught by a former Secret Service agent." Ask him what academy that was and to show you his graduation certificate. Ask him who the 'former Secret Service agent' was and if that person was the one who ACTUALLY taught the courses.

http://theliedetectorsusa.info
Apparent Owner - Keith Dunning
Area - Florida

Things to Note on the Site:

The most interesting thing about this site is that there is absolutely zero information on this examiner's training, credentials or background. No school, no memberships, no nothing.

Ask him to show proof of his credentials to conduct polygraph examinations.

http://northwestpolygraph.com
Apparent Owner - Robert Korter
Area - Vancouver, Washington

Things to Note on the Site:

On his 'Examiner Experience' page, he lists the following:

"Graduated Polygraph Academy, Los Angeles, CA. (with one-year internship)"

Ask him to give you the School Name, Director and Training Facility Address for this 'polygraph academy'.

Ask him to provide documentation of the schools curriculum and a diploma.(If its issued by John Grogan, it means nothing. Grogan once sent me a certificate of attendance to a 'training session' that I never even attended nor signed up for.)

"DOD/U.S. Military Polygraph Trained"

Wow, sounds impressive. Ask him to provide proof of attending Polygraph Training with the Department of Defense and the U.S. Military.

"Federal Polygraph Trained"

A bit repetitive since the DOD and US Military IS Federal. Maybe just an attempt to sound impressive? Ask for proof.

In his 'why we are different' page, he uses the phrase 'studies show' several times. Each time, what he is proposing studies show is simply not true. Ask him to produce references to these 'studies'. He can't because they don't exist, just more spin and marketing.

"This unnecessary additional stressor on the examinee, has been proven to affect exam results and erodes the clients confidence in the polygrapher to conduct a fair and impartial exam. Studies have shown this type of practice to result in an 'inconclusive, false positive, or false negative" test score, thereby, potentially creating undo and unjust hardship on the client."

Conversely, recent studies have shown, due to this bias towards the client, the examinee is far less likely to discuss in detail other relevant issues which may be uncovered during the pre-test interview (see below), requiring the necessity to facilitate additional steps with the client.

Unfortunately, studies have shown this to be more the rule than the exception, as many examiners are unaware this 'learned' bias exists.

He shows memberships with:

Polygraph Examiners of America (Grogan Site)
Washington Alliance of Polygraph Examiners (Grogan Site)
Polygraph Connection (Grogan Site)

There is no substance here, and these sites require nothing to be a member, even if they say they do, they don't. They merely give the appearance of legitimacy. Ask for proof.

http://floridapolygraphs.com
Apparent Owner - Sam White
Area - Jacksonville, Florida

Things to Note on the Site:

The problem here is not what's on the site, its what is not on the site. There is no information on this examiner's training, credentials or background. No school, no memberships, no nothing.

Ask him to show proof of his training and credentials to conduct polygraph examinations.

http://widmanpolygraph.com
Apparent Owners - Carl & Mary Jane Widman
Area - Redding California

Things to Note on the Site:

Says "-Member of PEOA (Polygraph Examiners of America) Ask if they are a member of any recognized polygraph association? Ask them if they were to apply for membership to the American Polygraph Association, would they qualify according to the APA guidelines for membership?

Says "They are both trained Forensic Psychophysiologists." That is a fancy way of saying polygraph examiner. But more importantly, ask them to show proof of that training. There is no information on their training or credentials to conduct polygraph. Ask for proof.

If you have located other websites that appear to fit the Grogan "Instant Examiner" model, please let me know so that I can research that website.

The following is a list of 'smoke and mirror' websites that are maintained by John Grogan. Their purpose? To spread a net across the Internet in which John snares the unsuspecting public into his web of deceipt. Don't be fooled by what the sites say, ALL ROADS LEAD TO JOHN HIMSELF! You will notice nearly all sites give you only one option and that is to call or email John at which time he WILL, in the words of one of John's old acquaintances, attempt to "baffle you with his 'bulls__t and separate you from your money." There is no substance or truth in these sites. If I have missed a site, please email it to me for inclusion.
